Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.- El Gobierno del Estado a través de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Urbano (SEDUMA) continúa con la implementación de programas y acciones con el propósito de proteger en Tamaulipas a la mariposa monarca (Danaus plexippus), especie en peligro de extinción.
En coordinación con diversas dependencias estatales dedicadas al trabajo en zonas naturales se ha implementado diversas campañas de concientización, una de ellas el aconsejar a automovilistas y transportistas disminuyan la velocidad a 60 kilómetros en avenidas y carreteras por donde circula está especie para contribuir a cuidarlas y que sobrevivan en su largo trayecto.
Como cada año, Tamaulipas cumple con la característica geográfica de recibir a esta mariposa con más de 4 mil kilómetros de trayecto de la misma, que huye del los climas fríos migrando desde la parte norte de América, Canadá y Estados Unidos hacia la entidad sobrevolando la Sierra Madre Oriental para continuar hacia los santuarios de hibernación en el Estado de México y Michoacán; La mariposa monarca migra en grandes números polinizando las flores, haciendo hincapié en que este servicio ambiental es fundamental en la cadena alimenticia natural.
El Gobierno de Tamaulipas a través de la Comisión de Parques y Biodiversidad y por instrucciones del Gobernador Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, continúa con exhortos a la población tamaulipeca a contribuir al fenómeno de la migración uniéndose a la campaña para proteger a la Mariposa Monarca, muestra de ello ha sido los programas que están implementados y convenios de colaboración interestatal y municipal para la participación conjunta en acciones de conservación del fenómeno migratorio de la mariposa.
